An iconic theatre turned Chapters bookstore will be closing its doors to customers.
The 80-year-old space was originally home to a theatre, but over time the space was developed into a Chapters bookstore.
Residents were strongly opposed to the development of the bookstore in the 90’s, expressing concern that the heritage site wouldn’t be preserved.
Upon acquiring the lease, Chapters maintained the setting by incorporating the balcony, stage, and wings of the existing theatre.
A store spokesperson confirmed to the CBC that the lease for the Bloor and Runnymede location will not be renewed.
The theatre has become a meeting spot for residents over the years.
A Shoppers Drug Mart is reportedly moving into the space.
